i am spending more time at home, on my books and on my blog, more than anywhere else. Just swiped off another one of picoult's books, 2 more to go. boy, i am feeling some remorse at buying 4 of her books at a time but they came in a package, so i guess there wasnt much of a choice.
although i hate to admit this, and despite the fact that i have tried to ignore this several times, my peripheral sight notices without fail every single time i turn on the computer tt my study table is in a terrible mess. I havent tidied it since god knows when, shirking this responsibility from eoys to chi olvl, then to malay olvl, and then the taiwan trip had served as a terrific excuse. It's a blessing my mum wont read this confession of mine or she will have more than one reason to smirk.
anyway, i have 3 issues of magazine to clear since they have been laying ard the living room for quite some time already. Think i will just browse thru them to allay my mum's wrath and also to defend my conscience. LOL and i stumbled across an article in the forum page of the straits times today which was worth reading. A 17-yr-old guy pitted himself against renowed Prof Kishore Mahbubani, reasoning that singapore doesnt need a national narrative. The argument was presented in the standard format of a SRQ answer. Examine evidence, question assumptions. Quite a persuasive piece of work and i was rather impressed with his analytical skills. It's interesting tt some fellow singaporeans have piled great disgust at him for disagreeing with Prof Mahbubani. Lol, we just arent used to rebutting authority though honestly i believe leaving some room for debate is the way forward.
'We do not need a new national 'narrative'. In the dark sky of obscurity, our national stars shine brightly by themselves and their achievements. Further embellishment or promotion is redundant.' extracted from 'We don't need new national narrative' by Tan Ee Kuan. The Straits Times, Forum, 6th Dec 2008.
Great ending, take a look if u can spare the time.
